Faith Johnson Patterson is a dedicated basketball coach, mentor, and community leader in the Greater Twin Cities whose impact extends far beyond the hardwood. A proud Minneapolis native and graduate of Marshall University High School, Faith’s passion for the game began as a multi-year varsity athlete, where she developed the leadership, discipline, and competitive drive that now define her coaching philosophy.
With years of experience guiding youth and high school athletes, Coach Johnson Patterson has built a reputation for developing fundamentally strong, mentally tough, and academically focused student-athletes. Her programs emphasize defensive intensity, teamwork, accountability, and character development. She believes basketball is more than a sport—it is a platform to build confidence, resilience, and life skills that prepare young people for success long after the final buzzer.
Throughout her coaching career, Faith has led multiple teams to 18 conference championships, 14 section championships, 14 state tournament appearances and 8 state championships. More importantly, she has mentored numerous athletes who have gone on to compete at the collegiate level amounting to over 3 million dollars in athletic scholarships. Her leadership style combines high expectations with unwavering support, creating an environment where players feel challenged, empowered, and valued.
Deeply committed to the African American basketball community in Minneapolis–Saint Paul, Coach Johnson Patterson actively works to ensure representation, opportunity, and legacy-building for the next generation. Whether organizing skill-development clinics, mentoring families, or advocating for academic achievement, she remains steadfast in her mission to uplift youth through the game she loves.
Faith Johnson Patterson has been inducted into The Minnesota Basketball Hall of Fame, The Minnesota State High School League Hall of Fame along with The Minnesota Girls Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. She continues to leave a lasting mark on Twin Cities basketball, leading by example-developing not just stronger athletes, but stronger leaders.
