In Memoriam

The Man Behind the Scholarship.

Keith Davis was an influential African American trailblazer who graduated from Minneapolis North High School in 1974. He began his coaching career at the Phyllis Wheatley Community Center as a young man, and went on to positively impact countless youth on the North Side, instilling pride in the next generation of African American kids he mentored.

Dedicated to his coaching, Keith led youth teams to championships in baseball, basketball, and flag football. His mentoring spanned three decades, including work at community centers and outreach programs in North Minneapolis that helped students gain college admissions. He also authored publications recognizing outstanding young athletes across the Twin Cities.

Keith passed away on June 19, 2012. His legacy lives on through the Greater Twin Cities African American Basketball Hall of Fame scholarship that bears his name, and through every young person it empowers to make a meaningful, lasting difference.

The Scholarship

Our History Is the Groundwork for Our Future.

We often think of trailblazers as distant figures, but the goal of this scholarship is to highlight the extraordinary individuals within our own community, the ones who too often get overlooked. The legacy of African Americans is a vital part of the foundation we build for our youth.

We honor the past while inspiring a new generation to shape what lies ahead. The Hall of Fame Scholarship is awarded to African American youth in the greater Twin Cities who are creating real change, and who plan to keep doing so, preserving and extending the African American legacy.
